Welcome to the Avoyelles Clerk of Court Online
Minimize

Thank you for visiting our website,

The big cities or towns that are located in Avoyelles Parish are: Marksville, Bunkie, Cottonport, Mansura, & Simmesport.  We produce beans, cotton, corn and wheat.  Our parish was established on March 31, 1807 from the Avoyelles Indians.  The major industry in our parish is farming.  In the early 1900's there were several plantations located in this Parish, some of these were discontinued as time passed.

There are several private schools located in this parish, such as Sacred Heart located in Moreauville, Louisiana, St. Mary's located in Cottonport, Louisiana, St. Joseph's located in Plaucheville, Louisiana and St. Anthony's located in Bunkie, Louisiana.  The climate in this area is a reasonable warm climate.

The only additional information that you might be interested in is that James Bowie, as you have probably heard or read about, at one time owned various tracts of land in this area.

Any additional information on the Parish of Avoyelles may be obtained at the Avoyelles Parish Library.

Samuel G. Couvillon
